Overview
The Gangbal Lake Trek is one of Kashmir’s most popular treks, suitable for beginners and experienced trekkers alike. The trail covers approximately 30 km round-trip and leads to the stunning twin alpine lakes of Gangbal and Nundkol, set against lush meadows and the imposing Mount Harmukh. Gangbal Lake, also known as Harmukh Ganga, originates from the glaciers of Mount Harmukh and drains into Nundkol, eventually flowing into the Sindh River. The trek is designed to allow ample time to explore and relax around both lakes, making it a perfect blend of adventure and serenity.
Itinerary
Drive: 45 km | 2 hrs
Trek: 10 km | 5–6 hrs
Early morning drive from Srinagar to Naranag (7,000 ft), a historic village known for ancient temple ruins. After a briefing by the trek leader, begin the ascent through pine and maple forests towards Butsheri Top, the steepest section of the trek. After refreshments at the top, continue on a gentler trail to the expansive Trundkol meadows. Camp overnight with views of Mount Harmukh.
Trek: 4 km | 2 hrs
Altitude: 11,800 ft
A short and easy trek across open alpine meadows. After breakfast, cross the army check post and continue towards Nundkol Lake. The trail gradually reveals the turquoise lake set beneath Mount Harmukh. Camp at Nundkol and spend the day exploring, relaxing, and enjoying the alpine landscape.
Trek: 1 km (one way) | 30 mins
Altitude: 12,000 ft
After breakfast, hike along the stream to Gangbal Lake, the largest alpine lake in Kashmir. Explore the lake and its surroundings before returning to Nundkol for lunch. The rest of the day is spent at leisure, observing shepherds, grazing flocks, and anglers fishing for trout. Overnight at Nundkol.
Trek: 14 km | ~6 hrs
Descend via the same route through Trundkol and Butsheri Top to Naranag. Enjoy the changing landscapes as forests reappear along the trail. After reaching Naranag, drive back to Srinagar, marking the end of the trek.

What is Included?
- Accommodation: Accommodation during all days of the trek is included. LogOut Kashmir gives you a choice to choose from a single person, two person or three person tents for you stay. But the same needs to be informed at the time of booking.
- Meals: All Meals on the Trek(Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner) are included. The food during the trek will be all vegetarian cooked by our high altitude chefs. You will be given packed lunch everyday which you will carry in your backpack.
- Transportation: Transportation from Srinagar to base camp on the first day & back to Srinagar on last day is included.
- Â GST and Other Taxes:Â The goods and services tax is included in the booking price.
- Camping Equipment: All the camping equipment like Tents, Sleeping bags, Toilet Tents, Dining Tent, Sleeping Mats etc. of high quality is included.
- Safety Equipment: First Aid including Medical kit, Oxygen Cylinder, Oximeter,stretcher etc. will be available all the time to deal with the emergencies.
- Â Trek Permits and Camping Charges: All the applicable trekking permits, Camping Charges, Forest Entry Fee, etc will be paid by us.
What is Excluded?
- Food during transit:Â Any food you have during your travel to & from base camp will be out of your own pocket.
- Personal Equipment: Your Rucksack, personal clothing, shoes, trek poles, and other personal trekking gear is not included in this package. You have to bring your own gear according to the weather and difficulty of the trek.
- Â Travel Insurance:Â Travel Insurance is not included in this package. You need to have travel insurance before opting for such adventures. You can contact our support to guide you through the process.
- Portage of Personal Bags(Offloading): If due to any reason, you wish  not to carry your rucksack/backpack, we can arrange for a porter/mule to carry it. For this service, you will be charged over and above the trek cost. The charges for offloading vary with every trek.
- Cloakroom Cost: We have a cloakroom facility available to keep your bags & valuables during you trek. The facility is available at Rs 200/bag/day. Such cost is not included.
