Overview

In the heart of Kashmir’s Anantnag district, lies the enchanting Tulian Lake. Located 16 kms southwest of Pahalgam, between the Pir Panjal and Zanskar ranges, this trek takes you through pristine landscapes and challenging terrains. The journey begins in Pahalgam, Kashmir, approximately 95 kilometers from Srinagar City. Although situated at a high altitude in the Himalayas, this trek is not as lengthy or difficult as other popular routes in Kashmir. It is perfect for those seeking a shorter adventure without compromising on beauty and thrill. As you ascend through meadows and forests, you’ll be surrounded by stunning natural wonders.  Along with a turquoise blue lake and charming alpine meadows, the trail is dotted with Pine, fur, chir and spruce trees – a rare sight on other treks in Kashmir. Our team at LogOut Kashmir ensures that you have ample time to explore the lake before heading back. The tranquil blue color of the lake against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains is truly mesmerizing. Another unique aspect of this trek is the opportunity to interact with local Gujjar and Bakarwal tribes who spend their summers grazing their goats and sheep in these high-altitude meadows.

You will meet our representative in Srinagar & prepare for a 90 km drive to Pahalgam which is where our trek will begin from. You are recommended to reach Srinagar at least 1 day before the trek so that you won’t miss the scheduled time of pick up. Drive from Srinagar to Pahalgam in itself is a wonderful experience as you will drive through the famous Saffron fields of Pampore & alongside the beautiful streams of Lidder River near Pahalgam. After 2-3 hrs you will reach GaneshBal, a village 2kms from Pahalgam where you will meet our team. You will have a small tea break here & in the meanwhile your trek leader will brief you about the trek. You will start your trek from GaneshBal. You start your trek in the lovely spruce forest. It’s a gentle climb to Deno valley covering a distance of about 4.3 km in 3 hours. As you continue on your journey, a charming clearing comes into view where you will also see some dhabas. You can stop for some refreshments here if you want.  Directly following this peaceful scene, you will encounter a small stream to cross. Keep an eye out for a river on your right that happens to stem from Tulian Lake. As you re-enter the treeline, you walk through sparse pine and spruce trees. Suddenly, a valley comes into view with stunning scenery as your backdrop. You’re headed towards Deno Valley, renowned for its unmatched beauty. Surrounded by the Pir Panjal and Himalayan mountain ranges, this region’s sprawling meadows are a feast for the eyes. Cattle and horses can be seen grazing in the open fields. The campsite, situated 2 km uphill from the valley, is strategically located among these trees while still providing unobstructed views of the surroundings. Today will be a long day, so we’ll start early. After breakfast, you will backtrack a bit from Deno Valley and continue on towards Chutiyaal. Along the way, you’ll pass through a forest and cross a small stream before reaching the peaceful Chutiyaal meadow, where we can take a break. You’ll then re-enter the jungle, but unlike previous days, today’s trail will take us deep into the forest. It’s about 1 km of trekking until we reach the expansive Baisaran meadow, also known as “mini Switzerland.” This breathtaking landscape is sure to leave you in awe, just like Kashmir Valley did. However, since it tends to get crowded in the summer months, we won’t linger for too long before continuing our journey. The path from Baisaran to Kanimol is a mix of gradual and steeper ascents through a Spruce and Fir forest. Keep an eye out for Gujjar huts along the way; they make for a picturesque sight. Finally, we’ll embark on a 4 km steep ascent from Kanimol to Tulian Marg. The path winding its way through the jungle is both slick and stunning. You’re venturing through one of the most pristine jungles in Kashmir, which may explain the primal aura it exudes. Exercise caution as you make your way. In about 3-4 hours, you’ll reach the enchanting Tulian Valley, a true depiction of all that comes to mind when thinking of Kashmir – abundant greenery, sprawling landscape, a chilly stream, and a handful of rocky huts in the backdrop. This picturesque valley will serve as your home for the next few days. Upon reaching your campsite, unload your backpack and settle in for some well-deserved rest.
